Name: Super Sequencers

Addressing: This activity addresses recalling, sequencing and ordering skills.
Summary: After reading a story, the students will work together to recall key events in chronological order. Image cards containing illustrations from the story will be provided.
Materials Needed:
- A story
- Image cards depicting key events from the story
Directions: The students will participate in a reading a story. Once the story is read, the students will be provided image cards. These cards will have illustrations of the main events from the story on them. The students will work together to put these cards in chronological order. They can refer back to the text to guide them in recalling the oder of the events as needed. Ultimately, this activity will help the students make sense of the story.

Addressing: This fun activity addresses vocabulary skills.
Summary: The students explore synonyms, antonyms, definitions, parts of
speech, and more as they participate in a number of tasks that require them to

act, draw, and explore their vocabulary words!

Materials Needed:

-Vocabulary terms written on individual pieces of paper
​
​
- A wheel with different categories written on it
Directions: All of the vocabulary words are written on individual pieces of paper that are folded and placed into a box. The students take turns randomly picking words out of the box. Once a student chooses a word from the box, it is his or her turn to spin the wheel. The possible categories that can be spun on the wheel include: Use it in a Sentence!; Rhyme Time!; Give an Antonym!; Draw it!; Part of Speech?; Act it out!; Say a Synonym!; and Define it! The student then completes the task associated with the category spun. After this, it is another student's turn.

Addressing: Both reading and writing are addressed within this activity.
Summary: This is a fun way for students to share their writing with each other. After the students complete a writing assignment, they will have the chance to read it aloud while sitting in the author's chair.

Materials Needed:
- A designated chair
- Student writing
Directions: The teacher will provide the students with a designated author's chair. This can be a classroom chair that is decorated in a creative way, or the teacher can let the students use his or her own chair. Once the chair is set up, the students will take turns sitting in it. Those students who are not seated in the chair will form a circle around it. The student who is in the chair will share their writing with the class.

Sentence Hunt

Addressing: The four types of sentences are addressed within this activity. Reading and writing skills are also incorporated.

Summary: The students investigate texts for interrogative, imperative,
declarative, and exclamatory sentences.

Directions: The students can explore either a single text or multiple texts to
locate the four classifications of sentences. Once a sentence is selected, the
students will write the sentence and the its classification on a separate sheet of
paper. Some suggestions of texts that can be used with this activity include:

whole-class readings, magazines, articles, novels, short stories, and newspapers.

Name: Parts of Speech Quest

Addressing: Parts of speech are being addressed in this activity.
​
Summary: The students will go on a quest around the classroom for cards
containing nouns, adjectives, and verbs. Once they have found one card for each
part of speech, they will use the cards to create a silly story.

Materials Needed:

- Cards containing different nouns, adjectives, and verbs
​
​
Directions: The teacher will write a variety of nouns, adjectives, and verbs on
individual cards. The cards will then be scattered randomly around the
classroom. Once the cards are scattered, the students will go on a quest around
the classroom to find a card related to each part of speech. After the cards have
​
been found, the students will use the cards they have collected to created a silly
story. For example, one student's cards might contain the words: green, jumping,
popcorn. The student can then think of a silly story to share about green
jumping popcorn. This activity can either be completed individually or in
groups. Either way, it is imperative that the teacher makes sure there are
enough cards for each student to complete the activity.
